Trump’s acting attorney general, Matt Whitaker, has no intention of recusing from Russia probe, associates say.

Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker has no intention of recusing himself from overseeing the special counsel probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to people close to him who added they do not believe he would approve any subpoena of President Trump as part of that investigation.

Since stepping into his new role on Wednesday, Whitaker has faced questions — principally from Democrats — about whether he should recuse from the Russia investigation, given that he has written opinion pieces in the past about the investigation, and is a friend and political ally of a witness.

In 2014, Whitaker chaired the campaign of Sam Clovis, a Republican candidate for Iowa state treasurer. Clovis went on to work as a Trump campaign adviser and has become a witness in Mueller’s investigation.

ok, it's an associate saying Whitaker has no intention of recusing. If it were Whitaker himself that would be evidence of bias in of itself. DOJ regulations state:
....without written authorization, from participating in a criminal investigation or prosecution if he has a personal or political relationship with any person or organization substantially involved in the conduct that is the subject of the investigation or prosecution.
The appointment otherwise doesn't even appear to be legal according to Lawrence Tribe. Personally, I'd like to see Justice Department officials telling Whitaker to piss up a robe and dare him to try to do anything about it. But, fortunately, they're a lot more professional than that.

Meaningless political theater.

His remarks about the special counsel were very temperate.

Now, Rosenstein should have recused himself long ago. Rosenstein is a material witness in the Comey firing, yet there he sits, unrecused. Rosenstein is very conflicted.
Whitaker has direct links to the Trump election committee. He must recuse. Trump's appointing him is sailing very close to obstructing justice.
