Dictator TRUMP QUOTED JEFFERSON THIS WEEKEND said Thomas Jefferson HATED THE PRESS. What did he say, Jefferson said, ' you couldn't believe anything between the pages'?? Old Thomas hated them when they (or just the guy below) started running stories about him FUCKING HIS SLAVE and having children with her. Jefferson was outraged. How dare they? 250 years later, we found out through DNA, Thomas Jefferson was the father of 4 or 5 "bastard" children from her.

James Calendar, the 'press guy' who was in a long running feud with Jefferson did TELL THE TRUTH. Whether Jefferson was lying through his ass by omission--did he deny it outright or he just wouldn't own up to his relationship or deflect or did the 19th century version of "no comment" routine, he lied, Callender didn't.

Of course, years later we find out JEFFERSON was sleeping with his slave. Whats more the 'founding father' and coward didn't have the decency to free her. She was given back to her 'original owner', kept in the family. Did he free any of his kids?

Anyone else remember this story? No, OF COURSE, they didn't teach this in high school in the previous decades or a whole century of 'high school' history classes.

Wikipedia

James Thomson Callender (1758 – July 17, 1803) was a political pamphleteer and journalist whose writing was controversial in his native Scotland and the United States. His contemporary reputation was as a "scandalmonger", due to the content of some of his reporting, which overshadowed the political content — some modern scholars note Callender's writings in favor of democracy. In the United States, he was a central figure in the press wars between the Federalist and Democratic-Republican parties. In the late 1790s, Thomas Jefferson sought him out to attack President John Adams, which Callender did. After Jefferson won the presidency, Callender was later denied employment as a postmaster by Jefferson, then Callender reported on President Jefferson's alleged children by his slave concubine Sally Hemings.

Hey DONALD, Jefferson had a lot to say about the press...

"The people are the only censors of their governors: and even their errors will tend to keep these to the true principles of their institution. To punish these errors too severely would be to suppress the only safeguard of the public liberty. The way to prevent these irregular interpositions of the people is to give them full information of their affairs thro’ the channel of the public papers, & to contrive that those papers should penetrate the whole mass of the people. The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers & be capable of reading them."
