Trump Storms Out of Shutdown Meeting

Trump is demanding $5.7 billion dollars for border security. Democrats are agreeable to $1.7 billion dollars.

That is the entire showdown/stand off.

Have no idea what or where that $3 billion dollar difference is supposed to be destined for. Neither do you. It sure isn't enough to build a wall across the expanse of the US/Mexican border.

The reality is that this is a political pissing contest. With both parties trying to claim the high ground.

..
Gee. Arithmetic, much?

$5.7 billion minus $1.7 billion is equal to $4 billion, not $3 billion.

And, you know, a billion here, and a billion there, and pretty soon, you're talking real money.

If you just 'lost' a billion dollars, the auditors are gonna be after you.

Better high-tail it to Brazil with all your loot, and change your identity, before they catch up with you.

What's infuriating is that Trump brought on this game of chicken with the Democrats when it could have been easily avoided. There was a CR that was passed both chambers, which he had agreed to sign....until Ann Coulter threatened to hold her breath...and then he flip-flopped. Once again, his ego comes before the welfare of the country he was sworn to protect. He has lied about his "comprehensive border security package" (there isn't one) and anyone with a functioning brain stem knows the wall won't accomplish a damn thing but make him feel a little better about his mushroom down below. He's never given a damn about working Americans and this proves it.

He needs to go ASAP.
TBH...neither party cares about working class Americans. The demographic is completely on their own. All is expected of the working class is to keep your nose to the stone, keep your mouth shut and continue to pay taxes and see absolutely nothing in return for what you pay in taxes. It has been like this for decades. It is the reason that Trump is in office. He said all the right things and the working class believed him. It seems hypocritical that he could have received 25B for his wall but not 5B....especially since the working class has been horribly affected by the shut down.

At the expense of the working class, tax paying Americans.

Well, I agree with that in large part. But that wasn't really my point.

Rather it was this: Trump played the working class for suckers in order to get into office, and now he's intentionally hurting those who are Federal employees...but moreover, he's placing the entire country at risk (e.g., TSA workers calling in sick because they can't afford transportation and other expenses).

I don't think it's "both sides." I don't think it's the Democrats, or even the Republicans, in this case. It's him. And he's doing it for no reason other than he wants his wall, which clearly, most Americans and most in government, do not. That should be the only takeaway here.

Pelosi and Schumer don't want to bargain. It's their way or the highway. Trump has even been willing to deal with DACA, but these two clowns won't give Trump anything.

The Democrats are a disgrace, and while they supported a wall a few years ago, they have done a 180.
I'm sure Supreme Court Justice Garland will mediate a settlement to this whole thing. Obviously Democrats don't play fair like you do.

This is all grotesquely overstated. For one thing, Trump is a completely PHONY populist. He doesn't give a flying RIP about 'the working class'. No true populist would push through a tax cut targeted, like a laser beam, at America's wealthiest families, while giving a pittance to Joe Sixpack. But that's EXACTLY what the Trump tax cut was. He also wants to completely abolish the inheritance or estate tax, which would do NOTHING for the working class and would be a massive giveaway to America's aristocrats. Meanwhile, the Democrats have ALWAYS pushed for increases in the minimum wage, while Republicans have ALWAYS opposed such increases. MANY working class Americans earn the minimum wage or just barely above it. Democrats are desperately trying to protect Social Security and Medicare. Republicans are drooling at the prospect of savaging both programs, if you only give them a chance. And yes, Trump doesn't give a shit that the working class is going to be hit HARD by the shutdown. He tells them to go borrow some money from Dad, like he did. Sheesh.

Isn't it a noticeable trend? Whenever a Dem says something, like AOC, for some it is an indication of it being liberal's fault, but when a GOP says or does something, then the "both sides do it" is derped out.
Yep. Just like Republicans only care about deficits when Democrats are in charge
