The president spoke with North Korean leadership / representatives personally? Gee, that's a big development.

It's also a departure from decades of U.S. policy, but Trump gonna Trump.

What do you want people to comment on? Nobody believes anything the Trump Administration says one way or the other. Unless we see an actual meeting taking place it could all be a ruse, a story planted by Trump's Administration that is just a distraction. It's the consequence of having an Administration that you don't even believe is telling the truth when it comes to weather reports.

From the link:
"They called up a couple of days ago and said, 'We would like to talk,'" Trump said. "And I said, 'So would we, but you have to de-nuke. You have to de-nuke.' So let's see what happens. Let's see what happens."

"lets see what happens", LOL.

If something ain't working even century or millennium ...don't you think its okay to attempt to try with something else?

Those decades of policies really worked eh?

But this isn't something new. Clinton tried talking to North Korea - even made a deal with them - and they cheated us - as they will cheat Trump on any deal he makes with them. Russia and China will also continue to cheat any sanctions we try (as they have always have done) so that isn't going to work either.

This idea that we can negotiate diplomatically with a lying mass-killing despot just isn't realistic. It hasn't happened for 30 years and it's not going to happen now.

You're right, they haven't, because North Korea has broken its word to us time and time again while flouting all international norms, kidnapping and murdering our citizens and our allies' citizens.

Trump and Moon Jae-in are engaging in complete folly if they think talking to North Korea, with the premise that we can reach any sort of agreement that means anything at all, is a productive exercise.

The best way to deal with North Korea is to put them beneath our contempt, to ignore them and dare them to back up their continual threats with action. We have bigger problems, and the more we engage, the worse off we are.

Can't hurt to try though ...
Yes it can. It lends them credibility they don't deserve.

Does it "hurt to try" to work things out with Al Qaeda? Just smooth it all over, bygones be bygones?

Guess who else has blown up international airlines for fun?

That's okay ... We often tend to blow an elephant out of a fly ... It's really no biggie, believe me :)
