Trump threatens to slap tariffs on China by 'another at least $300 billion'
Beijing has so far hit back by adding tariffs to $60 billion worth of U.S. goods and adding America to an “unreliable entities list."
By Matt Clinch, CNBC

"In July last year, Trump indicated that he was willing to slap tariffs on every Chinese good imported to the U.S. should the need arise. “I’m ready to go to 500,” the president told CNBC."
"On Wednesday, the International Monetary Fund said U.S.-China tariffs could cut global economic output by 0.5 percent in 2020, noting that tariffs between the world’s two largest economies would cause some $455 billion in gross domestic product to evaporate."

Tariff Trump continues to berate China and other countries with his unneeded tariffs that are causing chaos and dismay among world leaders. He still hasn't gotten the fact that his tariffs produce chaos right here in this country with the economy. Perhaps it's a matter of his just feeling powerful in that he can do it. However, that is the wrong attitude and approach as there are other more diplomatic solutions that can be reached in this matter if he bothers to organize a meeting with his advisers and others to discuss the situation for a more amicable outcome.

There doesn't appear to be any rational goal driving these outlandish threats. No harmful products, counterfeit products, products made by slave or child labor, etc. are banned.

What are these tarrifs FOR, assuming Trump ever succeeds at imposing them?

The bad thing is, he is very close to triggering a global recession.

The good thing is, that will torpedo his own chances at re-election.

The VERY bad thing is, the rest of the world is going to be VERY pissed at America, because this global recession, just like the last one, will be very clearly stamped: Made in America.

Oh, he knows, all right.

They appeal to his BASE. His base consists of extreme xenophobes.

Seriously, President Trump could come out tomorrow, and announce major tariffs against New Mexico, and his base would start applauding him enthusiastically, until someone pointed out to them that New Mexico was actually one of the fifty states.

Then they would stop, but only for a moment, and respond by accusing whoever told them that, of LYING.
