$2/bushel for soybeans. $4/bushel for corn. Nationwide. Billions and billions of dollars.

This is not the government buying up surplus crops so as to reduce demand and organically inflate the price.

That's an extraordinary measure, but one that's been done before, Uncle Sam behaving as just another customer with a lot of money.

This is direct payment to private entities to cover uninsured losses. Trump is loading up the pig trough to buy votes.

Pro-Trump conservatives are a complete joke. He is enacting literally everything you say you oppose.

Aren't farmers eligible to buy farm income insurance? Why don't they just rely on that?

It's a special circumstance because of the trade war with China. Farming and Agriculture is one of the backbones of this nation. Trump will make sure that heartland of America is still going strong.

Iowa farmer Tim Bardole survived years of low crop prices and rising costs by cutting back on fertilizer and herbicides and fixing broken-down equipment rather than buying new. When President Donald Trump’s trade war with China made a miserable situation worse, Bardole used up any equity his operation had and started investing in hogs in hopes they’ll do better than crops.

A year later, the dispute is still raging and soybeans hit a 10-year-low. But Bardole says he supports his president more today than he did when he cast a ballot for Trump in 2016, skeptical he would follow through on his promises.

“He does really seem to be fighting for us,” Bardole says, “even if it feels like the two sides are throwing punches and we’re in the middle, taking most of the hits.”

Farmers are hurting, but they still support Trump and his trade war — for now

Repeat after me.

Tariffs are a tax

So because of his stupid move on trade, the US taxpayer is now not only going to pay extra for most of they buy, they are also going to be paying for the "farmers".

A special circumstance of the government's own making. That is not an excuse to spend money, BORROWED FROM CHINA, to make up for their errors.

Farming and Agriculture is one of the backbones of this nation. Trump will make sure that heartland of America is still going strong.
The true "backbone of this nation" doesn't want explicit government handouts. Those who celebrate these payments aren't real farmers, they are crony capitalists.
