Many of the programs for elimination provide direct services to rural areas where Trump is most popular.
The White House would slash rural housing subsidies, mortgage loan guarantees, programs that maintain clean water and other utilities and independent agencies that support job training programs. In many cases, states would be expected to offset spending cuts to critical infrastructure, like sewer repairs; but in other cases, including development grants that revitalize neighborhoods or seed new local businesses, communities would likely have to turn to private organizations for funding or assistance.
Members of Congress likely will fight against many of the proposed cuts that benefit their constituents directly.
The Rural Utilities Service would lose billions of dollars under the proposed budget for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, including more than $2 billion used to keep power lines, phones and internet connectivity working in rural areas. Funding for rural business owners also would be slashed, from nearly $130 million in 2017 to $31 million.
“The 2018 budget eliminates this program because it has not been able to show evidence of improved outcomes; such as economic growth and decreasing out-migration,” the proposal says.
USDA’s Rural Housing Service would also see billions in cuts that virtually eliminate direct loans and mortgage guarantees for rural households, potentially making homeownership and revitalization more difficult. Under the administration’s proposals, there is no funding for new housing grants for rural families or farm laborers in the budget, nor for direct loan subsidies.
Well, this is a huge betrayal of Trump's promises to the people of Appalachia, at the very least. Obviously he is proposing to rape the rural poor because, as everyone else who has ever fucked them over knows, they have too few voters and no other power base at all with which to complain effectively about it.
It's diabolical. There is widespread malnutrition already in the swathes of rural poverty in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Western rural areas of the US. This budget would raise the spectre of actual starvation deaths -- of Americans, including children -- in those regions, if it passed. The impact of these cuts alongside the cuts Trump wants as to food stamps, etc. for all Americans would literally be life-threatening for some of our fellow citizens.
That Sissy Spacek movie "Coal Miner's Daughter" about the lives of Kentucky coal miners and their families (and the stunningly fabulous Loretta Lynn) was a DISNEY version of the poverty that exists in the worst parts of these areas. It's a centuries-old national disgrace.
And not for nothing, but this proposed budget sounds more and more like an austerity budget. One might even call it a subsistence proposed budget. WHY is Trump proposing such drastic cuts not just in this area, but in entitlements and elsewhere -- and yet, at the very same time, massively increasing military spending?
Trump's proposed budget is nothing more than an evil conservative's wet dream.
Does he just flat-out HATE Americans?
