U.S. Journalists to undergo trial in North Korea

Two journalists were accused of spying in North Korea and arrested and are scheduled for trial. They could potentially be sentenced to death by North Korea's court system. This along with the threat of a "missile test" is all too much of a reason to take a stronger stance with North Korea. Our journalists should be returned to us.

If they entered N. Korea illegally then they should be punished. Seeing as N. Korea is a sovereign nation it is up to them to determine the punishments for breaking their own laws. Any fool that enters N. Korea illegally probably deserves what they get. If these people are journalists then they had to understand the risks, thus they did so willingly and should have understood what the consequences for their actions could be.

N. Korea is probably the best example of why smaller countries should all attempt to get nuclear weapons. Look at what it has done for N. Korea. They can do almost anything they want and force the US to pay attention. Without nuclear weapons we wouldn't be talking about N. Korea at all. Nobody would ever mention them or care what they threatened or what they actually did. Nuclear weapons have made one of the poorest most despotic countries on earth into a country that others must pay attention to. I can't believe every third world nation doesn't have a nuclear weapons program...

Are you serious?!?!?!

North Korea having nukes is far away from anything good. They're 'off his rocker' leader would know doubt annhilate his enemies if he had the chance, including the United States. They and nations like Iran do not need to have WMDs based on the fact of what crazed dictators would do with them.

On the main point though. They were covering a story over a large amount of land and did not realize when they had crossed into North Korea. They were arrested on site and could be tried with some form of espionage against the state and executed. This is just a bargaining chip for their missile program.

I was not one hundred percent serious about small nations builiding nuclear weapons programs, but the fact remains if you have nuclear weapons you cannot be ignored. It actually makes sense for them, not for us. I think too often the US forgets that other nations have an interest in the world that has nothing to do with the US. The US tends to see the world only through its own interests and often disregards the interest of others.

Whatever the reporters said is pretty much irrelevant, if they were in N. Korea when they were arrested then they broke the law and should be punished. I desire the US to enforce its immigration laws and will not fault another nation for enforcing their own. Perhaps if we took the N. Korean approach fewer illegals would swarm across our borders...

Thats why we should outlaw nukes. That way we can continue to ignore 3rd world countries because we don't need nuclear weapons to obliterate them ;)

Even though we have the "most" to lose by having no nukes it would still be one of the biggest advantages we could get in the world.

If there was some real UN resolution outlawing nuclear weapons, with the threat of every nation invading them... then we wouldn't be hypocrits by not wantin Iran or N. Korea to have any.

All we need is Russia OR China as well as the EU to be on board with us and I think then the rest of the world would support this.

Its a novel concept but the reality is the worms are out of the can. You can get rid of nukes but you cannot obliterate the knowledge of them. There is really no logical reason to get rid of nukes if you already have them.

Right, the nuclear issue is the reason why Americans by and large pay attention to N Korea. Never mind that they have a rigged, non-transparent system that is one of the most oppressive in the world. It takes a sensational topic like nuclear arms to get anyone's attention about N Korea, which is reflective of the sad, uninformed and unconcerned populus here.

That being said, why all of the sudden is this oppressive regime so horrible now that Americans are involved? No person's well being is more important than others because of nationality. This pompous and disconnected attitude that, "Oh, they are imprisoning Americans, shame on them!" is a sad reflection of the lack of concern for oppressive regimes and the people they regularly oppress, like North Koreans. One who has this pompous attitude wades in irrational and dangerous nationalism and deluded superiority.

We can only do so much at this time for the North Koreans. Any attempt to actively pursue overthrowing their government would intice China. However, American citizens, we do have an authority to have a say. Believe me, I want world oppression to halt as much as the next guy, but to try anything right now would prove disastrous.
