Vegas, a symbol of all that is wrong in this country

To start, the what is wrong that I'm talking about is corporate greed and gluttony.

Was recently in Vegas, and could not stop thinking that Vegas is the epitome of American gluttony and greed. In the middle of a desert and have all these fountains, using tons of electricity. The casinos are so damn greedy. One thing that I found to be absurd is there were no water fountains in the casinos. Really, can't keep your patrions hydrated, force them to purchase your over priced water. The buffets are just absurd how much food they have and how much they throw away. Meanwhile so many people starving around the world

Everything about it is like how everything has become in this country. Corporations sucking every last penny out of people.

GI went there to see a band play and I stayed in Old Vegas and only was on the Strip for the shows. Not sure if I will ever go back, plenty of better places to go.

Does your city allow gambling and drinking 24 hours a day?

If it doesn't then you kind of forced us to open up one in the desert away from everyone.

I personally blame you for this.

Dr. Simpson,

Vegas has its charms, more or less. You need to look for the deals. Airfare and hotels are dirt cheap during the week. I mostly go to play golf, and you can find some pretty good deals if you look. Good shows, but a little costly, for the most part. Thing is, the older I get, the more I'm convinced Vegas is for the younger crowd.

Speaking of buffets, they are actually a huge money maker for the providers. They don't have to pay a wait staff, so they save money there. Cooks are line cooks, so no expensive chef's kitchen staff. The food is massed produced, and mostly starches that people fill up one so they don't fill up on the inexpensive cuts of meat and seafood.

I was in vegas once about 50 years ago. I got lost trying to find an on ramp to ANY freeway out of town. Only person who knew and would help us, my wife and I , was a black gay man. I believe your assessment is true and correct!

I love vegas.... just for thoes very reason you state. It is loud and ostentatious. It is an orchestrated purposeful assault on your senses. Vegas is a mecca for gluttony and hedonism, a place to be seen and not be seen. Vegas is both beautiful and gaudy, trash and class. Its also a place to win a fortune or lose your ass.

Vegas is what you make of it... or more to the point, how much you want to pay for it. If you want to love vegas you will love vegas. If you want to hate vegas you will detest it. Most places now are moving away from water fountains, and if you ask any coctail watress on the casino floor for a bottle of water its yours for the asking.

Isnt water in a desert beautiful? Yes, indeed it sure is.

Hoover dam provides all the water and electricity vagas needs at a very cheap rate. Water has gone up the last few years do more to politics then anything else.

not all buffets in vegas are created equal.... you will get what you pay for. That being said.... the best thing about the buffets is people watching. OMG....it is the human theater on the move.

I go to vegas to relax. Its a great place for fine dining, cabana pool time and hours and hours in the spas.

as for corporate bullshit... its the same everywhere in the world.... and no one is twisting arms to get people to spend their money.

The only thing that I could find to appreciate in Vegas was the 'Star Trek Experience' and the Tropicana seafood buffet. Star Trek is gone, don't know about the Tropicana. I don't drink, don't gamble. The shows had no appeal. Had to go there several times for work (conventions, etc) and haven't been there in more than a decade. No desire to go back.

My experience in Vegas had me thinking how there were so few vegetables to eat in the restaurants.
