Watch fiery Dems chanting 'USA! USA! USA!' as Republicans vote down election cybersecurity grants
By Jen Hayden

"Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) gave a fiery speech on the floor of the House of Representatives, imploring Republicans to approve funding for vital cybersecurity upgrades ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. You would think that would be a bipartisan issue, right? Nope. Republicans could not even put partisan politics aside for one vote to safeguard our voting systems from foreign enemy attackers. From the Washington Post:"
"House Republicans on Thursday approved a spending bill that excludes new money for election security grants to states, provoking a furious reaction from Democrats amid a national controversy over Russian election interference."
"The spending bill passed 217-199. Democrats’ bid to add hundreds of millions more in election spending was rejected 182-232 — as Republicans were unmoved by Democrats floor speeches decrying the funding changes and chanting “USA! USA!”
"Why would they do this? Why are they so hellbent on obstructing efforts to upgrade our cybersecurity? They have money to detain immigrant families, two new Air Force One planes, $12 million for a fluffy ego-boosting military parade that Trump wanted and who knows how much has been spent flying Donald Trump around to his private golf courses. Yet no additional funds to safeguard our elections."
"Watch a fiery Rep. Hoyer implore Republicans to take action as rowdy House Democrats chant “USA! USA! USA!”

################################################################################

It has now been revealed that Republicans in Washington do not want Cybersecurity for the 2018 elections. Why not? Do they want a repeat of 2016 with the Russian hacking? Sure appears to be the case here. It's bad enough that Trump agreed with Putin and Russia on many things during their recent meeting and made Russia look stellar over America. So, it looks very bad now for the GOP to deny funding for this important program that will help to keep the American election system more secure. It is an utter outrage!

Yep, saw that yesterday. Steny Hoyer is my Rep and has irritated me sometimes, but lately he's been pretty damn good about the Russia stuff.

The slanted Washington Post version gives at least a few more facts than the pure trash Daily Kos version.

Republicans dismissed the Democrats’ effort as theatrics, contending that Congress had fully funded states’ election security needs over the years and that states still have plenty of grant money left to spend from a $380 million allocation for 2018.
We are spending a third of a billion dollars on this already.

The vote came on a procedural motion by Democrats aimed at adding $380 million in state election security grants for 2019 to a broader spending bill for the Treasury Department, the judiciary and related agencies. Republicans, arguing that they’ve fully funded the grants program over the years, excluded any new funding for it in the spending bill.
This wasn't an actual bill put forward by Democrats but an attempt to attach a $380 million dollar rider to another bill.

The Senate version of the financial services spending bill also excluded new money for election security grants. It passed the Senate Appropriations Committee on a bipartisan vote.
In the Senate where people were not attempting theatrics for some cameras, the same bill did not get any rider attached and passed in a bipartisan fashion.

What are Democrats willing to do to help with voting integrity.....

Voter ID......nope.
Accurate voter rolls......nope.
Safe borders......nope.

The Daily Kos, the Right-Winger's greatest FEAR! Because this news source has integrity and speaks well for itself with its resourceful links that's why it is so hated by Republicans.

Just what is Your Side doing to help with voter integrity?

Help the poor and minorities get to the polls to vote.....nope!

Help those without cars get to a state or local offices to obtain ID cards?.....nope!.

Target vulnerable children and separate them from their parents at the border?......YEP!

Those things aren't the problem.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who sits on the Senate intelligence committee looking into Russia's attack on the 2016 election, warned elections officials in his state not to be complacent.

"I cannot emphasize enough the vulnerability," Rubio said, according to the Tampa Bay Times. "I don't think [election officials] fully understand the nature of the threat."

Talking in public about these dangers is a tough balancing act. Transparency in elections is a key component to a working democracy — but election officials want citizens to vote, so they have to portray confidence in the system.

There remains no evidence, as lawmakers and election heads often point out, that any votes were actually changed in the 2016 election.

But the Department of Homeland Security says Russian hackers did break into the registration system in one state, Illinois; steal the username and password of an election official in another, Arizona; and targeted or probed the voting systems of at least 21 states.

Will Your Vote Be Vulnerable On Election Day?

You want to wait till after the midterm results mysteriously defy the exits polls and people are marching in the streets and lawsuits have are filed for recounts and all the wear and tear on our already frayed tempers as this drags out for months?

Of course you do. You think this shit's funny as hell.

So drive someone to a poll or you are committing fraud....nice reasoning. Immigration policy is now....voter integrity..... double nice reasoning.

There's a minimum bar for participation. You're below it right now.

Those things aren't the problem.

They are the problem. Some of us have a longer memory than 15 minutes. Plus simple logical reasoning states that if you are going to wish to be credible in claiming that 15 people abroad can influence and possibly alter an election with Twitter, memes, fake news and what have you that 11 million people residing in the country can have some small percentage actually illegally participate in voting and alter elections as well. Even if it were 1% that would be 110,000 votes in an election that some estimates have claimed could have been changed with as few as 77k votes nationally.

Also elections haven't been defying the exit polls. They've been defying the polls from 8-10 weeks out when media sources are desperately trying to lock down an outcome for Democrats. That is why you saw Clinton supposedly losing support even in the midst of a "Pussygrabbing" October. She was never up by 12 points. As for the recounts and your proclamations, why don't you go investigate what Jill Stein did with that money. See how virtuous the left is there.

I never said that and you know it. But you are used to twisting words around in an egregious manner to suit your very twisted convenience. I'm saying how many times do Republicans or Conservatives think of driving a poor, elderly, disabled or minority person to the polls just because they can? Never is the answer. Therefore, they are not doing their part to help those Americans get out to vote. Why not?
