What do you think is the best looking aircraft ever made?

Now that is just a pathetic sight!^

First off... they have biplane "chase" planes... lol.

For having 6... 8 engines... it's not really that big of a craft... seems like most of the bulk is taken up in "wingspan" and engines to power it...

Next, I see an additional engine (pair) was added over the fuselage... looks like an after-thought, was it perhaps under-powered off the drawing board? (Looks like it would be very high in "drag coefficient," more or less a flying brick.)

Next... it doesn't even have retractable landing gear, that is going to cost them maybe as much gas as running two or three additional fighters by itself...

And not exactly "bristling" with guns, shooting one of these down, I would feel kind of bad in a way... for a moment before I chewed them up...

Plus... what is that dinky "fighter" with the hook next to the craft?

Experimentation in "on-board" fighter escort...? What could go wrong there?

Thx :)
Dude, it was built in the 30s... What retractable gear? No planes had that, back then.

As for guns, this was a civilian plane, why would it have guns???

As for "bristling", check out this project they had back then, the Kalinin K-7

:D

In the end, I believe only one experimental prototype was built, and it didn't really go anywhere. The world is probably better off for that haha

I take it all back, I thought that first one was pretty daffy, this one is 10 times more so...

What's it made of, boiler plate?

A flying "battle ship" I guess...

LOL, the more I look at it, the more I crack up! :zany:

Thx :p

I don't think they ever actually got it off the ground either lol

Also, plenty of aircraft had retractable gear during the 1930s, even the Yugoslavians had retractable gear...

This was the age of the retractable gear.

The Lockheed Electra Amelia Earhart was lost in 1937 had a retractable gear...

Thx :)

The Russians were just developing at that time, had a lot of innovators, but pretty much everyone was learning at that time, and we see funky aircraft from diverse sources all over the world! :p Some of the weirdest probably from the US!

I really wish WW2 would not have happened, I can't think of one good thing that came out of that... people always say "war makes technology advance..."

The 1930s were swept up in technology anyway and would have progressed very neatly into the 40s, 50s... into the age we have today, it was all inevitable...

But WW2, mostly the doing of a very few individuals... greedy, ruthless... Hitler and Hirohito carving up a map of the world with a dagger... I guess that's all it takes for the whole world to be thrown into turmoil... hmm...

I'm moving out to the forest...

Thx :)
