What is the "philosophy" of refusing to learn from history or experience?

How many times do pile-ups have to occur before people get the mesage to do things like use turn signals, actually stop at stop signs, turn on their headlights when it is foggy and rainy and most of all, slow down when conditions are snowy, icy, foggy dusty or otherwise conditions of low or difficult visibility? How much property, how many peope have been injured and killed in incidents that could easily be prevented with just a little thoughtfulness and connecting some pretty simple dots.

Yes, we all have lapses and need reminders, but a part of life's challenge is to stay alive. There have always been accidents and always people who don't seem to feel a need to pay attention while behind the wheel of a vehicle, much less care about anyone or anything else, on the road, but are humans getting less intelligent or with population growth is it there has been an increase in people lacking intelligence, much less consideration for others, besides themselves.

Be safe out there, people! THINK! Help prevent what is preventable.

People are highly confident in their abilities to perform routine tasks in a competent manner.

For example, the average adult has a lot of hours of driving experience so it it easy to think that all driving events are routine, even if the weather is bad. Intelligence, or the lack of it, has nothing to do with it.

It is the same as going swimming in the ocean. Just because a person is a good swimmer in a pool, pond, lake, or river, he may be out of his element in the ocean if he encounters a rip tide, sharks, jelly fish, or other dangerous hazards.

Refusing to learn from history or experience points to an absence of philosophy.

Generally as with slowing down when conditions change, intelligent people (people aware of their surroundings and aware of other people's experiences (learning from them) if not their own, take action to increase their chances of survival. If people know there are sharks in water they are considering swimming in and do not enter. The same with rip tides, jellyfish and more. If they are caught by surprise by sharks, a rip tide, jellyfish and things like weather, because they are aware and intelligent, they also do things to improve their survival chances, like get out of the water when sharks are in the area or arm themselves with repellents or means to fend off sharks before entering water. If they are swimmers, they make themselves aware of many types of conditions they may encounter or ask local people if it is safe to swim. If caught in a rip tide, they learn what to do.

It's not rocket science. Accidents will still happen and even the most experienced, aware and intelligent people will still be injured or die, but the same aware, experienced and intelligent people observe behavior that are accidents waiting to happen all the time as in tailgating, running stop signs, not turning on their headlights in rainy or stormy weather, not using turn signals, among other things.

Unfortunately, for those that do not seem to care to be aware or consider the world or others in the world besides themselves, they are are not the only tragic victims of their lack of thoughtfulness and awareness, they end up not only harming or killing themselves, they ham or take the lives of those who ARE considerate and thoughtful and consider others in the world aside from themselves.

It's not about "elitism", it is about survival and humanity and how people can not only look out for their own survival, but realize their actions can harm or kill others, aside from themselves. A part of humanity (human and moral (including religious) values) is not only looking out for one's self, but their fellow human beings.

Intelligence has EVERYTHING to do with it!!!
