Was just thinking: Has a good response to a storm ever helped a president's job approval numbers?
Yes. The response to Superstorm Sandy quite clearly helped President Obama's approval numbers during the election campaign of 2012. Remember that he was even HUGGED by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and how much consternation that caused in Republican circles?

Helped Chris Christie quite a bit as well as independents and a chunk of democrats also voted for him in NJ.

People could just mentally compare the federal response to Superstorm Sandy to the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, and the difference was an order of magnitude difference in the level of competence. And in 2012 you had, in contrast, Mitt Romney saying that America had far too many teachers, police officers, and firefighters, at the precise time when we were fighting MASSIVE wildfires in the West, having to call in firefighters from as far east as Maine!

Superstorm Sandy may have CLINCHED the 2012 election for Barack Obama. That's how important it was.

Wonder what the Trump response to Florence will mean at the Voting booth this year?
