What the Kentucky governor's race results say about progress, according to a Kentuckian
As Tuesday night’s election proved, Kentucky is not the backwater some on the coasts have come to believe. But Andy Beshear's win over Matt Bevin didn't come easily.
By Rep. Attica Scott

"We were sick and tired of a now-hopefully lame duck governor who attacked almost all of us across the state. Republican incumbent Matt Bevin belittled Black people, dismissed immigrants and refugees and repeatedly attacked our teachers, among others. If we didn’t speak up for ourselves at the voting booth, we knew there would have been no one left to speak for us."
"What is happening across the south — and Virginia flipping Democratic on Tuesday is yet another example — is a result of ongoing mobilizing, organizing, registering people to vote and empowering ourselves. In southern states, we've seen this with labor unions and community-based organizations. If we ignore all of this history and present-day work, it will be to our detriment."
"We can and will win when we choose one another. In 2020, Mitch McConnell is next on the list. And I, for one, can't wait."

Truer words were never spoken from a Kentuckian. People are finally waking up to the fact that Trump and Republicans have got to go and that they need to think for themselves rather than to only believe what the Right-Wing Political Party constantly throws at them. No doubt with that new understanding they will make greater and wiser decisions for a long time to come.

No. Virginia is due to the huge influx of Libs from DC flowing in. NOT a change of attitude of Regular Americans.

They aren’t. Ky. has some of the most beautiful farms in the country. Many wealthy people. Huge Universities.

That backwoods thing went out half a century ago. Same for Tennessee, Georgia and other states. The put downs are just a way for making some think their State is superior.
