Today, especially with relations being what they are, I doubt any Russian school history teacher would talk about this in class; and likely most in America are not aware of it either.

But, yes, in 1891-2, half a million Russians perished from starvation or cholera, in many ways thanks to the incompetence of their own government at the time; and Americans organized relief missions, ships full of provisions, trying to help them

Did not know that, thanks for the info.

Many also don't know that Russia prevented other nations from entering our Civil War by parking their Navy off our coast.

The South had many allies that had a vested stake in seeing them win but Lincoln was able to strike a deal with Russia to help us, even though it was just a threat, no physical help.

Lots of ties between US and Russia going back a long way.

We don't do much talking about how Russia diverted enough of Hitler's energy to allow all of us to win WWII either.
