White House plans to spurn Democrats' request for documents in impeachment inquiry
Democrats have said the White House failure to produce the material, which was requested this week with a Friday deadline, would be used as evidence of obstruction in impeachment proceedings.
By Shannon Pettypiece and Kristen Welker

"White House lawyers plan to argue that until there is a formal vote by the House to begin impeachment proceedings, Congress doesn’t have the right to the information, people familiar with the discussions said."
"House Democrats have said they would subpoena White House officials by Friday if their demands were not met. Democrats said the panels would not consider contempt or any other penalties for noncompliance, and that White House failure to produce the documents would instead be used as evidence of obstruction for impeachment."
"It was unclear what the White House was basing its legal argument on; the congressional rules manual leaders typically follow makes no mention of a vote being required, and there is no constitutional requirement for such an action. A White House spokesman declined to comment."

That is yet another tactic by Republicans to try to disarm the Trump impeachment inquiry. Why don't they just cooperate instead? It would be so much better and would show the nation that they are not trying to hide anything. But instead they are casting dark shadows into the process and leaving much to be desired. In the end, it sure appears that Democrats will still be able to obtain what they need in order to move on with the business at hand but it will look far worse for Republicans no doubt.

Actually it is probably a tactic by the White House to highlight the fact that a formal impeachment inquiry vote that would grant subpoena power not just to House Democrats, but to House Republicans has not occurred.

I mean you do realize that whenever you talk about how the House has the right to oversight it doesn't just include one party right?

There is no impeachment inquiry since it was not approved by a full house vote. This is just another democrats witch hunt

Time to start slapping the WH officials with fines and taking the issue straight to the Supreme Court for release of all the tapes re phone calls between Trump and Pence with foreign leaders.
The democrats do not have the right to subpoenas until there is a full house vote

One of the many reasons the GOP is standing behind Trump despite the growing tidal wave of evidence of his criminality is that Pence is complicit, and they have no fallback. No matter how bad it gets, if they go down the impeachment road, it ends at President Pelosi.

Let the House trout uncover all the incriminating evidence and then vote to impeach. Do it so every rock and every person who aided and abetted or tried to cover it is revealed. Then send it to the Senate for the trial and let the Senators explain to their constituents why they are not doing their duty and upholding the constitution of the USA.
Should the Dem's win the WH all the people guilty of the crimes unearthed during the Mueller probe and in the House's inquiry for
impeaching Trump should be indicted and go to criminal trial PERIOD.
If the Dem's don't win the WH then it's all over for US democracy. Putin and his oligarchs have won.
