Fortunately everyone survived but the loss of the bomber is irrevocable.

WW2 B-17 bomber erupts into flames | The Sun |News
SEVEN passengers miraculously survived after this World War 2 bomber turned into a mid-air fireball.

The B-17 Flying Fortress caught fire and crash-landed in a field near Aurora, Illinois, shortly after take-off.

The pilot of the vintage plane reported an engine fire 20 minutes after the aircraft left Aurora Airport, near Chicago.

The plane ploughed into a cornfield — but the seven people on board, including the two pilots, were able to escape without serious injury.

Glad no one was hurt but hate to see a piece of history go up in flames like that. :f_sadface:

(not many of those classic aircraft left in the world)

One of the best WWII movies featuring the B-17

I saw that same B-17 flying low over head the weekend before the crash. It was in our area giving rides. It was a sight to behold. Sad that it's destroyed, Glad no one was hurt.
