As far as sources go; the best is the simple philosophy.

1 - Absorb everything : Do not limit the sources that you would read.
2 - Trust nothing : Everyone wants to sell their perspective as fact, none of them can be trusted to be honest, so we let it go.
3 - Notice the patterns that emerge : The patterns from a large enough grouping of information will start to have representative data being repeated, while the opinions are only mentioned by those that share them... in this way, not only does new information get added, the elements added either fit or are incoherent to the pattern and can be treated as noise.
